The fundamental difference is the anode(the negative polar of lithium ion cell) material, instead of graphite as the anode material of other lithium -ion batteries, Lithium Titanate battery has LTO(lithium titanate oxides)as the anode material which changes the lithium ion cell’s micro structure from 2-D stratified vulnerable structure to a 3-D stereo-chemical noncrystalline fused micro-sphere particle structure, where the stability of the cell chemical compound been significantly improved and cycle life, high C-rate (current/power ) capability, electrochemical safety, durability, and resistance to extreme high and low temperatures all been dramatically promoted.
Customers should choose battery based on their application. Look into the parameters including energy, power, current, restricted space, operation environment, charging conditions etc to decide what is the right battery. LTO’s low reactivity with electrolyte eliminates Solid Electrolyte Interface(SEI) layer creating improves thermal stability and safety; meanwhile LTO is capable of absorbing oxygen molecules at very high temperatures from cathode degradation that reduce risk of thermal runaway and increasing safety; furthermore LTO chemistry eliminates creation of dendrite that reduce risk of internal cell short circuits. At 240℃ LTO still provides unmatched safety performance, compare with other lithium ion batteries which already experience catastrophic failure at 160℃. With voltage boundary up to 6V and -55℃~60℃ wide temperature ranges provide greater safety margin. When experience deadly over charging for lithium-ion battery, LTO can hold up to over 1 hours after voltage limit, while other lithium ion battery already started to emit flammable gas after several minutes after hitting voltage limit.
